Seventeen people were killed and 22 injured as a crashed onto a passenger bus in Shahjahanpur upazila of Bogra early Thursday morning.
All the victims were passengers of the bus bound for Joypurhat, reports our Bogra correspondent.
Eleven people including four children and four women died on the spot while the rest at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogra.
Identities of the dead could not be known immediately.
Locals said a Dhaka-bound goods-laden truck hit the bus, which left Dhaka Wednesday night, at Noymile area around 5:45am.
Reaz Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Shahjahanpur Police Station, said the drivers of both the vehicles were driving recklessly and lost control while taking a turn at Noymile.
Protesting the accident, locals blocked the highway near the spot at about 6:15am.
They, however, withdrew the blockade after two hours when officials of local administration rushed to the spot and requested them to leave the highway.
