Jamaat to stage countrywide demonstrations Apr 5 Release of party top leaders demanded

Ref: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party will stage demonstrations across the country on April 5 to drum up their demand for the release of their detained top leaders, who are now facing charges of wartime crimes.

Jamaat Acting Secretary-General ATM Azharul Islam Friday announced the programme at a press meet at party office in the city, criticizing the authorities for holding the party top brass in jail “without following due course of law”.

Cricket World Cup: Muralitharan set to defy injury

Ref: Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is set to put his body on the line in a bid to end his career with victory over India in Saturday’s World Cup final.

The 38-year-old is expected to take the field in the Mumbai showpiece despite struggling with hamstring, knee and groin problems during the tournament.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Angelo Mathews is out with a thigh injury, while India seamer Ashish Nehra is a major doubt.
