Khalaf murder case 5 to walk gallows

REF: A Speedy Trial Tribunal Sunday sentenced five people to death for killing Saudi Embassy official Khalaf Al Ali.
The condemned convicts are Mohammad Al Amin, Saiful Islam Mamun, Rafiqul Islam Khokon, Akbar Ali Lalu and Selim Chowdhury.

US drone strike kills al-Qaeda suspects in Yemen

Ref: At least three suspected al-Qaeda militants have been killed by a US drone strike in Yemen’s south-western al-Bayda province, say local officials.
The men were reportedly hit as they travelled in a car in el-Manaseh village on the outskirts of Radda.

Central African Republic crisis: Bozize promises coalition

Ref: Central African Republic leader Francois Bozize has said he is ready to form a national unity government with rebels, as they continue their advance towards the capital Bangui.

Mr Bozize`s remarks came after a meeting with African Union chairman Thomas Boni Yayi.He said he would hold peace talks with rebels in Gabon, and would step down when his term ended in 2016.
The rebels told the BBC they would consider the president`s offer.

PSC, EBT, JSC and JDC results out

Ref: Results of Primary and Junior level terminal board examinations are out. 97.35 percent of the fifth graders have passed Primary School Certificate (PSC) examinations. 92.45 have passed the Ebtedayee Terminal Examinations (EBT) and 86.97 have passed the Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations.

Ref: The Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) begins on Thursday as a franchise-backed regional competition with a focus on bringing more leverage to longer-version cricket.

Foreign Ministry summons Turkey envoy

Ref: Expressing concern, the Foreign Ministry summoned the Turkey envoy to Dhaka Mehmet Vakur Erkul to explain the reason about why the Turkey delegation is lobbying for war criminals by misusing special visa.

Acting foreign secretary Mustafa Kamal made the explanation to Turkey envoy on Wednesday about the dissatisfaction of the government in this regard.

Oppn alliance’s mass agitation Sunday

Ref: The opposition alliance will stage demonstrations across Bangladesh on Sunday to protest against what they describe as the ‘government’s corruption, tyranny and public suffering’.

“An agitation rally will be held at 3pm in front of the BNP central office at Naya Paltan,” party’s Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said.

Mild tremor felt across country

Ref: A mild tremor on Saturday night jolted the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country.

There was no immediate report of casualtiy or damage in the quake that was felt in different parts of the country, including Chittagong and Mymensingh regions, at around 10:41pm. Read more →

1 killed in city train crash

Ref: A woman was killed and three others were injured when a train hit a private car and auto-rickshaw on Khilgaon rail crossing in the city Friday morning.

The identity of the deceased and injured were could not be known immediately.Police instantly confirmed that four people died in the accident. Later, they confirmed about one’s death.   Read more →
