18-party to stage countrywide protest rallies Thursday

REF:  The BNP-led 18-party alliance will stage countrywide rallies on Thursday protesting the killings and arrests of opposition leaders and activists and repression on them allegedly by the law enforcers and ruling party “cadres”.

Addressing a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on the 18-party’s 60-hour hartal that ended at 6pm on Tuesday, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programme.

REF: Sharply criticising the government for its misrule, opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Friday said this government will be treated fully illegal from October 27.

Source: BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the 18-Party alliance will hold its rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Friday in keeping with the conditions prescribed by police.
The decision was taken in a meeting of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and other senior leaders at her Gulshan office on Thursday night.
“We have decided to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan from 2pm for the sake of peace and compromise (as per police conditions). We hope the government will provide full safety to people going to the rally,” Fakhrul said.
He warned that the government would be responsible if the ruling party men and the law enforcement agencies created disturbances or prevented anyone from joining the gathering. Read more →

Police nod for AL, BNP rallies in Chittagong

Source: Deputy Police Commissioner (Sadar) Masud-ul-Hasan told  bdnews24.com: “We have notified both the parties about this by phone and will  have notified them in writing by tonight (Thursday).”
City Awami League  Joint General Secretary Ibrahim Hossain Babul told bdnews24.com: “We have been  allowed to hold our rally on Shaheed Minar premises at 3pm.”
“Both the  parties have been allowed to hold the rallies on the condition of not occupying  Laldighi ground on Friday,” he said.

BSF member killed in Pakistan firing

Ref: Jammu: Pakistan troops resorted to heavy shelling at Indian positions at more than 30 locations along the International Border killing one BSF jawan and injuring six others a day after Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Zee News reported.

Ref: Germany has received information that US intelligence may be spying on the mobile phone of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who called President Barack Obama to protest, her spokesman said yesterday.
