‘Godhuli Express’ train derails in Comilla

REF:  At least 40 people were injured as a train derailed in Brahmanpara upazila on Sunday evening due to the removal of fishplates from the rail tracks allegedly by blockaders.

 

The accident snapped the train communications on Chittagong-Dhaka and Chittagong-Sylhet routes, he said.

Egyptian women face heavy prison sentences over peaceful protests

REF:  A group of women have been jailed for 11 years for a peaceful protest in Alexandria, as Egypt’s interim prime minister gave a strong defence of a law further restricting public demonstrations.

The women, supporters of the deposed president Mohamed Morsi, received 11-year jail sentences on Wednesday for forming a human chain and passing out flyers earlier this month. Seven minors among the group were remanded to juvenile detention until they reach legal age. The youngest in the group is 15 years old.

More violence in Dhaka, one killed

A pedestrian was killed and five others injured when a bus lost control after a petrol bomb attack and ran over them in Dhaka’s Malibagh on Saturday.

This happened around 8pm on Saturday at Malibagh’s Chowdhuryparha during the ongoing Opposition’s 72-hour blockade.

Witness Mehedi Hasan told bdnews24.com that the bus lost control and shot into the footwalk after a petrol bomb was hurled at it.

People in the area rushed the injured to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The injured at DMCH said the bus driver lost control after a bomb was flung at the bus. Then it ran over the pedestrians on the footwalk, said bdnews24.com Correspondent Kamal Hossain Talukder from the hospital.

Rail hit by sabotage

Opposition activists are continuing to target Bangladesh’s rail network to make a success of their back-to-back transport blockade.
An Express train went off tracks in Rajshahi on Sunday after fishplates were removed.

The sabotage disrupted train services on Rajshahai-Dhaka and Rajshahi-Khulna routes.

Rajshahi Railway Police OC Alamgir Hossain said blockade campaigners removed fishplates of railway track between Sarda and Nandangachhi railway stations in Chaarghat Upazila.

The engine and five coaches of the Dhaka-bound ‘Dhumketu Express’ got derailed around 1.30am just past midnight, said Rezaul Karim, manager of Rajshahi railway station.

No one was injured, but the accident forced trains on the Rajshahi-Dhaka and Rajshahi-Khulna routes to stop.
