Multiple attacks in Baghdad leave many dead

REF:  Multiple attacks in the Iraqi capital Baghdad have killed at least 10 people and wounded dozens others, in a day that saw a spike of violence across the country blamed on the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).


Police told Al Jazeera that two improvised bombs and a car bomb exploded on Monday in the Tunis neighbourhood in the city’s north, which is populated by many Shias. Three mortar shells also exploded in a Shia camp.

Dhaka-Aricha highway traffic disrupted

REF:  Traffic on the Dhaka-Aricha highway was disrupted for nearly two hours on Tuesday after a bus and lorry crashed into each other at Dhamrai.


At least 15 bus passengers were injured after the collision at the Bathuli Bridge around 7am.

ISIL ‘kills scores’ in Iraqi province

REF:  The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has killed at least 200 people from the Albu Nimr tribe, which had taken up arms against the fighters, police officers cited by news agencies said.


Women and children were said to be among those executed over the past 10 days in western Iraq’s Anbar province which has been largely overrun by ISIL.

Bangladesh party official faces death penalty

REF:  Bangladesh’s Supreme Court has upheld the death penalty handed down for a Jamaat-e-Islami leader for atrocities committed more than four decades ago, the latest in a spate of rulings against the Islamist party’s officials.

Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, 62, assistant secretary-general of the party, was found guilty on Monday of genocide and torture of unarmed civilians during the 1971 war to breakaway from Pakistan, by a special war crimes tribunal in May last year.

REF:  Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali has been condemned to death by the war crimes tribunal.Under his command local collaborators of Pakistan army let loose a reign of terror in Chittagong in 1971.

Peshmerga in Kobane fire rockets at ISIL

REF:  Iraqi Peshmerga forces have started combat operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Kobane, less than twenty four hours after arriving in the besieged Syrian town.


Peshmerga fighters in Kobane, a town near the Turkish border that has become a focal point in the battle against the armed group, fired at least six rockets from pick-up trucks at ISIL positions on Saturday.
