UNSC rejects resolution on Palestinian state

REF: The UN Security Council has rejected a Palestinian resolution calling for peace with Israel within a year and an end to Israel’s occupation by 2017.

Iraqi forces ‘retake Dhuluiyah from ISIL’

REF: Iraqi forces have completed the recapture of Dhuluiyah, parts of which had been held by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) for months, commanders have said.

Cameroon bombs Boko Haram positions

REF: Cameroon’s air force has bombed Boko Haram positions in the Far North province of the country for the first time after the armed group from neighbouring Nigeria seized a military camp, the government has said.

President Paul Biya personally ordered Sunday’s air strike, which forced the Boko Haram fighters to flee the camp at Assighasia, Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said in a statement late on Sunday.

Palestinians to push ahead with UN resolution

REF: The Palestinian leadership has presented changes to a UN draft resolution that could set a timeframe for the creation of a Palestinian state.


Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told US Secretary of State John Kerry he would press ahead with a resolution calling for a peace deal with Israel within a year with an “end to occupation” of Palestinian territories by late 2017, state news agency WAFA reported.

Missing AirAsia jet likely ‘at bottom of sea’

REF: The AirAsia plane that went missing with 162 people on board after takeoff from Indonesia is likely at the bottom of the sea, Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency chief said as aircraft and ships were dispatched to search for the jet.

“Based on the coordinates given to us and evaluation that the estimated crash position is in the sea, the hypothesis is the plane is at the bottom of the sea,” Bambang Soelistyo told reporters on Monday.

NATO holds ceremony closing Afghan mission

REF: NATO has held a ceremony in Kabul formally ending its war in Afghanistan, officials said, after 13 years of conflict and gradual troop withdrawals that have left the country in the grip of worsening conflicts with armed groups.



The event was carried out on Sunday in secret due to the threat of Taliban strikes in the Afghan capital, which has been hit by repeated suicide bombings and gun attacks over recent years.

Syria ‘ready’ for peace talks with opposition

REF:  Syria is ready to meet the country’s opposition in Moscow in an effort to find a way out of the nearly four-year civil war, a government official has said.

“Syria is ready to participate in a preliminary and consultative meeting in Moscow to respond to the aspirations of Syrians who are trying to find a solution to the crisis,” the Foreign Ministry official said on Saturday, quoted by SANA state news agency.

AirAsia flight with 162 people missing

REF:  An AirAsia flight from Surabaya, Indonesia to Singapore has lost contact with air traffic control after take-off, the airline has said.Flight QZ8501, which had 162 people on board, was supposed to land in Singapore at 8:30am local time on Sunday.

“At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available,’ the airline said in a statement on Facebook.

Hamas warns of unpaid staff taking to streets

REF:Gaza City – Thousands of former Hamas employees who have not received a salary in months will likely take to the streets if a solution is not found soon, a Hamas representative has warned.



Basem Naeem, a former health minister and prime ministerial adviser, told Al Jazeera that the status quo “cannot continue”, noting the pressure has become too much for many to bear.

ISIL captures pilot of plane downed in Syria

REF: Jordan’s military has confirmed that one of its pilots was captured by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group after his plane went down in Syria, official news agency Petra said.


“During a mission on Wednesday morning conducted by several Jordanian Air Force planes against hideouts of the Islamic State terrorist organisation in the Raqqa region, one of the planes went down and the pilot was taken hostage” by ISIL, Petra quoted a source from the military’s general staff as saying.
