India’s Rajya Sabha passes LBA bill for exchange of enclaves with Bangladesh

REF:  India’s Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the bill to operationalise the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh, and the entailing exchange of enclaves between the two countries.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Nineteenth Amendment) Bill, 2013, was unanimously passed by the upper house, with 180 votes in favour and none against it.

Bollywood star jailed for five years over hit-and-run

REF: Indian movie star Salman Khan has been sentenced to five years in jail for killing a homeless man and injuring four others in a 2002 hit-and-run case.

Mumbai’s High Court found Khan guilty of culpable homicide and other charges on Wednesday for driving his Land Cruiser into a group of homeless men sleeping on a sidewalk in suburban Mumbai. Read more →

Afghan policemen killed in multiple Taliban attacks

REF: At least 18 Afghan policemen have been killed in Taliban attacks in Badakhshan province, the director of a hospital in the provincial capital Faizabad has told Al Jazeera.

A senior police official in Wardoj district, who did not want to be named, told Al Jazeera that the Taliban attacked 13 checkpoints on Sunday night. Read more →

Gunmen killed outside US exhibition on Islam’s prophet

REF: Two gunmen have been shot dead outside a controversial exhibition featuring cartoon depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in Dallas in the United States state of Texas, US authorities say.

The shooting was reported shortly before 7pm local time on Sunday outside the Curtis Culwell Centre in the Dallas suburb of Garland.

BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu dies of heart failure

REF: BNP leader Nasir Uddin Ahmed Pintu, who was convicted for involvement in the 2009 BDR mutiny, has died of cardiac arrest in Rajshahi.

Rajshahi’s Rajparha police OC Mehedi Hasan said that Pintu was taken to the Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) from the jail on Sunday noon after he complained of chest pain.

REF: UN Assistant Secretary-General Oscar Fernandez-Taranco has been tasked to hold talks with political parties in Bangladesh on the situation emerging from city corporation elections.

Nepal rules out possibility of survivor buried under rubble

REF: The government of Nepal says there are thin chances of finding anymore survivors trapped in the rubbles, reports Times of India.

It has announced on Saturday that the death toll from the massive earthquake has risen to 6,621.
