Tsunami alert as powerful earthquake strikes Chile

REF: A massive 8.3-magnitude earthquake has struck off the central coast of Chile, killing at least three people,
triggering the evacuation of coastal areas and sparking warnings that tsunami waves could reach as far as Japan.


The earthquake had a shallow depth of 11km and hit at 7:54pm (22:54 GMT), with the epicentre located about 500km north of the capital Santiago, seismologists at the University of Chile said. Read more →

Israeli police storm Al-Aqsa Mosque for a third day

REF: Palestinians and Israeli forces have clashed at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque for a third straight day, as Israeli forces were seen on the roof of the holy site.

Suleiman Ahmad, the president of Jerusalem’s Affairs Department, who was at the scene, told Al Jazeera that at least 36 Palestinians were injured in the clashes early on Tuesday.

Austria imposes border controls over influx of refugees

REF: Austria has imposed new restrictions at its borders, as the country on the main route for refugees crossing the European Union by land struggled to cope with a backlog of thousands trying to reach Germany.

The AP news agency also reported on Tuesday that the temporary control imposed by Austria from midnight local time (2200 GMT) on the Hungarian border may also be extended to other nations.
