Ref: Three people died and four others were injured as a truck and an ambulance collided head on near Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the early hours Wednesday.
Sher-e-Bangla Police Station Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam said the collision took place while the ambulance was carrying a patient to National Heart Foundation hospital in Mirpur around 3am.
The deceased were Khokan Pathan (50) of Chairmanbari in Gazipur, his wife Farzana Begum (45) and ambulance driver Alamgir Hossain (43).
The injured were Nabil, 18, Sajib, 20 – both are sons of the deceased couple, and their neighbours Manik, 35 and Neelu, 58.
SI Rafiqul said Khokan Pathan was taken to an Uttara hospital as he was feeling chest pains. Doctors at the hospital advised them to take Pathan to National Heart Foundation hospital.
The passengers of the ambulance were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Khokan and Farzana were declared dead upon arrival, driver Alamgir died while undergoing treatments, police said.
