Ref: Chittagong City Corporation authorities have suspended its four engineers and one supervisor in connection with the collapse of a Batali Hill retention wall following a landslide in the port city on Friday.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the high officials at Nagar Bhaban with mayor M Manzur Ahmed in the chair on Saturday.
The CCC also formed a seven-member inquiry committee to investigate the incident. The committee was asked to submit its report within 15 days.
CCC executive engineer Abul Hasnat has been made member secretary of the investigation committee.
The other members of the committee are ward councillors Niaz Mohammad Khan and Mahbubul Alam, ward councillor of Batali Hill area F Kabir Ahmed Manik, CCC executive magistrate Abdur Rahman, CCC legal officer Sarwar-e-Alam and mayor’s personal secretary Manzurul Islam.
The suspended engineers are superintending engineer Mokhter Alam, executive engineer Abu Saleh, assistant engineer Rafique Uddin Siddiqui, deputy assistant engineer Azazul Haider and the superintending officer of its construction works.
CCC public relations officer Saifuddin Ahmed told bdnews24.com that the five officials were suspended for their negligence of duty during construction work of the retention wall.
At least 17 people were buried alive in a rain-induced landslide at the bottom of Batali Hill at Tigerpass intersection on Friday.
