Seven people were killed and 37others injured in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Gaibandha and Rajshahi Wednesday.
In BRAHMANBARIA, Four members of a family were killed and two others injured in a head-on-collision between a microbus and a truck on Dhaka- Sylhet Highway in Shahbajpur area under Sarail upazila early morning.
The deceased were identified as Nurjahan Begam, 55, Pakhi Aktar, 20, Aklima, 18 and Banu Begam, 45, of Noakhali’s Rampur area, repots our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
Gatihataa highway police camp sergeant Md Akram said that a truck rammed a Sylhet-bound microbus from Noakhali carrying the family members killing one of them on the spot and injuring another two in the area at around 4 am.
Later three died on way to hospital.
In Gaibandah, Two persons were killed and injured another 35 as a truck rammed a passenger bus on Dhaka- Rangpur Highway in Avirampur area under Palashbari upazila here in the morning.
One of the deceased was identified as bus passenger Dulal Mia, 28, of Buraburi village under Ulipur upazila in Kurigram district, reports our Gaibandah correspondent.
Gobindoganj Highway thana OC Abu Sayed told banglanews that the accident occurred at about 7:30am when a Kurigram-bound passenger bus collided head-on with a Bogra-bound truck in the area killing the two on the spot and injuring another 35 passenger of the bus.
Among the injured 12 were admitted to Rangpur Medical college Hospital in critical condition and the rest to Palashbari Upazila Health Complex.
Police seized the bus and truck after the accident.
In Rajshahi, A pedestrian was killed as a bus hit him on Tarapur road in Putia here at around 9:30 am.
The deceased was named as Abdul Hi, 42.
A Rajshahi-bound night coach of Hanif Enterprise hit Hi here killing him on the spot while he was crossing the road, reports our correspondent in Rajshahi.
Later locals put up barricades on Dhaka-Rajshahi Highway protesting the accident and demanding speed breaker here.
The protest caused huge traffic congestion.
Putia thana OC Ziaul Islam said that “they are talking to locals to withdraw the barricade”. However the situation is under control, he added.
