Ref: The police late on Tuesday night rescued grade-one student Parag Mondol, who was abducted from Shubhadya fof Kenariganj, from Ati Bazaar.
Unknown assailants abducted Shuvadda Banglabazar Heed International School student and shot at least three people including his mother and sister in front of their Shubhadya residence at South Keraniganj around 7am Sunday.
Businessman Bimal Mondol’s wife Lipi Rani Mondol, 35, and daughter Pinaki Mondol, 11, and driver, Nazrul Islam, 35, were shot during the abduction of their youngest child in front of their south Keraniganj house around 7am Sunday, reportedly over land dispute.
The rescue was pulled off hours after his father, Bimal Mondol, sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention to get back his son.
Dhaka district Superintendent of Police Habibur Rahman said they rescued Parag unconscious from the western side of Dhanmondi at Ati Bazaar.
He was rushed to Square Hospitals and being treated at the Intensive Care Unit.
Parag’s father Bimon Mondol, who is now at the hospital, told bdnews24.com, “There is no sign of wound in my son’s body. But he has become ill over the last two day’s hassles.”
SP Habibur Rahman said police could not arrest any of the abductors.
Dhaka district police along with RAB officials and a team of Dhaka Metropolitan Police jointly carried out the rescue operation.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, an Assistant Commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, who took part in the rescue drive, told bdnews24.com they arrested some suspects after Parag was abducted. “We communicated with the abductor through them,” he added.
“At one stage, the abductors said they have released Parag. Parag was found at a side of a road after we searched Ati Bazaar area for several hours with his father,” he said.
Meanwhile, a RAB official, seeking anonymity, said Parag got released after giving a ransom of Tk 5 million.
“The child has been rescued after paying ransom as we put our priority on rescuing him alive,” he added.
Over the issue, RAB Spokesman M Sohail told bdnews24.com,” We have begun operations to catch the abductors having rescued Parag.”
However, he avoided speaking on the issue of ransom.
Parag’s grandmother Sabitri Mondol filed a case with the Dakkhin Keraniganj Police Station over the incident accusing four unnamed attackers on Sunday night.
The High Court was moved on Tuesday asking for its directives to rescue Parag within 24 hours. The hearing of the case may be held on Wednesday.
