Ref: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
Head of BCB’s media and communication Jalal Yunus briefed the media on the team details at a hotel in Sylhet on Friday.
Mohammed Ashraful and Junaed Siddique have returned to the team, accompanied by paceman Robiul Islam, who was sidelined after his Lord’s Test debut.
On the other hand, Nasir Hossain has been chosen to make his national team debut, while Shuvogata Hom Chowdhury will play in a Test match for Bangladesh for the first time.
Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal will lead the team as captain and vice-captain, respectively.
Alok Kapali, Naeem Islam, Sogir Hossain and Suhrawardi Shuvo have all been listed as stand-by for the upcoming tour.
“I couldn’t play despite being a member of the squad in the series against Australia. I have been practising hard and will do my best if given a chance to play,” Shuvogata told bdnews24.com
This was the first selection job for the new selection committee under Akram Khan, alongside two former captains Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar Sumon.
BCB announced its primary 23-member squad on June 30. Those players commenced practice from July 3 at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
Interim coach Sarwar Imran is looking after the team’s practice for the moment. Newly appointed head coach Stuart Law is soon to take the responsibility of the team.
Shakib and Tamim, who are playing county cricket at the moment, will join the team there.
