BNP leader's residence vandalised

Residence of Dhaka district BNP president and former minister Abdul Mannan has allegedly been attacked by Awami League’s student wing during the hartal called by BNP.

Mannan told bdnews24.com that a group of Chhatra League activists while leading a procession in front of his residence at Dhanmondi, Dhaka around 10am started hurling brickbats that damaged the gate and windowpanes of his house.

He also alleged that a number of activists trespassed his residence and vandalised a car.

Later, police arrested one of Mannan’s relatives, Kazi Masum Hossain. They, however, released Hossain following an altercation with Mannan over the detention.

Mannan added that the Chhatra League activists went on vandalising his residence in presence of the law enforcers.

The opposition BNP has called the general strike to press for a number of its demands including withdrawal of cases against the party chief Khaleda Zia and others filed over in connection with the recent clash in Munshiganj over building an airport on Arial Beel, probe into the recent stock market crash and bringing the market manipulators to book.
