Rajon on 2-day remand

Ref : Abdul Awal Rajon, the main accused in Natore college teacher Mizanur Rashid murder case, was placed on a two-day remand on Tuesday.

‘Stalker’ Rony arrested

Ref: Devashish Saha Rony, the prime accused in Chanpa Rani Bhowmik murder case, was arrested at Jhenidah district headquarters on Sunday morning.

A special team, comprised of Faridpur Additional Superintendent of Police Subrata Kumar Haldar, Investigating Officer Md Ali Khandkar and Sub-inspector Sheikh Abu Bakr of Detective Branch, captured Rony from a motor garage in Aragpur area of Jhenidah town around 10:30am, Faridpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Awlad Ali Fakir told journalists at a press conference at his office in the afternoon. 8 ruling party activists in Pabna get bails

Ref: Eight activist of the ruling party’s youth and student wings were granted bail on Wednesday in a case filed under the speedy trial act for foiling a recruitment test at Pabna deputy commissioner’s office and assaulting government officials on September 17.

But the court refused to grant bail to 17 other accused in the case.

Ref: At least two persons were killed and six others seriously injured in a train crash in Sirajganj on Friday.

Emma Watson visits Bangladesh to promote fair trade

Harry Potter star Emma Watson recently traveled to Bangladesh to witness firsthand the work being done on her fair trade clothing line, People Tree. In particular, she visited the community known as Swallow, where employees craft the apparel for her label, according to NDTV.com.

She also visited the factories where major retailers, such as Gap and Primark, have their own clothing operations.

“The contrast between the slums in Dhaka where the people who work in the garment factories live and Swallows… was all too apparent,” Watson told the news source, adding that the experience had helped clarify what a difference fair trade has made in local lives. Read more →

Extremist leader Mithu killed in Bagmara ‘crossfire’

Ref:A leader of outlawed extremist group, Elahi Bax alias Mithu, 25, was killed while he along with his cohorts engaged in a shootout with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Goalkandi area of Bagmara upazila in the district early Wednesday.
