Kerry signals end of drone strikes

The United States is seeking to end drone strikes in Pakistan, Secretary of State John Kerry said Thursday.

Kerry told a Pakistani television station that President Barack Obama has a “very real timeline” for ending the strikes.

“We hope it`s going to be very, very soon,” Kerry said, according to a transcript of the interview provided by the State Department.

“I believe that we`re on a good track. I think the program will end as we have eliminated most of the threat and continue to eliminate it,” Kerry said.

Forty militants killed in Mohmand operation

Ref: Pakistani troops backed by jets and helicopter gunships have killed 40 militants in a restive tribal area bordering Afghanistan in the past three days, a military commander said Thursday.

Brigadier Aftab Ahmad told AFP by telephone that his forces had destroyed 17 militant hideouts in the Baizai region under his command in the lawless tribal area of Mohmand.
