Jamaat’s countrywide protest rallies Saturday

Ref: Jamaat-e-Islami will hold protest rallies across the country on Saturday in protest of Thursday’s police beating of its activists in the capital.

Jamaat acting secretary general ATM Azharul Islam announced the programs at a press conference at the party’s central office Friday.


While announcing the programme, he also demanded demanded immediate release of its detained workers, who were arrested while forming human chain in front of the Jatiya Press Club on Thursday.

Azharul condemned the Thursday’s police action and said: “The government let loose its police on our peaceful program. Is it the symbol of institutionalisation of democracy?”

He alleged that the ruling government intends to stay in power in future by withdrawing the caretaker government system.

Jamaat leaders Dr Shafiqur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam Khan, ATM Masud, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Hamidur Rahman Azad MP, Nurul Islam Bulbul and Tasnim Alam, among others, attended the meet.

Earlier on Thursday, police charged batons when Jamaat men were preparing to form the human chain in protest against soaring prices of essentials and price-hike of fuel and CNG. Some 18 persons were also detained from the scene.
