Ref: Police on Monday barred the leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of BNP, from proceeding the office of the Dhaka University Vice-chancellor to submit a memorandum containing their seven-point demand.
The student leaders were resisted by police when they were preparing to bring out a procession from the main gate of the National Museum at Shahbagh at about 11:30am. They JCD leaders also had a brawl with the law enforcers
Central JCD president Sultan Salahuddin Tuku and general secretary Amirul Islam Alim along with hundreds of activists were present at that time.
Later, they staged a demonstration in front of the Museum. During the demo, they presented the seven-point demand for keeping congenial atmosphere in the educational institutions.
The demands include retaining the name of under-construction DU residential hall after BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, coexistence of all student organizations in the dormitories and on campus and driving out the outsiders and terrorists from the varsity halls.
“The University lacks congenial atmosphere in the educational institutes as non-students and outsiders controll the halls,” said Salahuddin Tuku.
Senior vice-president of BCD central committee Haider Ali Lenin, Dulal Hossain, Shahidul Islam Babul, Omar Faruk Shafin, Fazlul Karim Chowdhury Abed, Sheikh Mohammad Shamim, joint general secretary Amiruzzaman Khan Shimul and Abu Sayed also spoke at the rally.
