Probe-report on share-market scam published Muhith says SEC chairman change in couple of days

Ref: The government divulged the probe findings in full on the much-talked-about share-market scam on Saturday evening, in the wake of mounting pressure for publishing the report.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith presented the probe report in CD, including the names of the market-manipulators, in a press briefing at the secretariat of the Ministry of Finance at 6pm.

He told reporters that the SEC chairman would be changed in a couple of days as a corrective measure.

An official said the briefing was earlier scheduled to be held at 11 am Sunday. “Accordingly, we informed all media through e-mail. But now the corrected emails are being sent to the media as the minister ordered changing the time.”

A high official of the MoF had said that the name of a new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) might be announced in the briefing, as the probe body stood the watchdog body itself in the dock for some of its bosses’ alleged complicity in the market manipulation.
