A fleet of state-run buses was pressed into service in the city Saturday for the transportation of students on different routes, under a scheme undertaken for relieving schoolchildren of a nagging hassle they face just after the sunrise.
Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) introduced the 14 school buses for ferrying students of 26 schools along the Pallabi-Azimpur route from 6am to 9am and 11am to 3pm.
Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain inaugurated the bus service at Mirpur Bangla High School.
At the inaugural function, the minister told his audience that the agreement on construction of the Elevated Expressway would be signed next Wednesday.
“The confusion that looms over the construction of the Elevated Expressway is not correct. The agreement to this effect will be signed with a Thai company on January 19,” he categorically said.
BRTA Chairman MM Iqbal, Communications Secretary Mozammel Haque Khan, Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and Ilyas Uddin Molla MP were present at the function.
